Faction Fraction

Hey everyone. Go check out

A most excellent compilation of homegrown New Zealand comics, sign up and get every issue free and sent straight to your inbox! I don't believe it gets much better then that... unless you maybe consider I might have a tasty Saurian Era comic short in the next one - oh my!

Post-Armageddon

Best adventure yet. Comic was received wonderfully by people and sold better then any of the previous ones :D
Here is the intro at the beginning of the comic:

A few of the racers competing, thats Flint giving the low-down. I am working on developing them a bit more so stay tuned:

 And Barli, getting underfoot again:

At freakin' last:

Appeasement

Comic is on it's way! So, so close. Just been caught up in some work so not to worry, the comic will look the better for it and still be out for Armageddon in a months time :D

And right below we have the fearsome, Baby Kumra:

"Terror of The Five Kingdoms! The Great Devourer, Land Shark and The Stomach That Walks, all fearsome names for the voracious beast Baby Kumra will one day grow up to be. Until then, he has some serious eating to do, so, uh, watch those fingers and toes folks..."

Designed for a toy competition - if I place I might even be able to get him made in 3d!

And, if that's not enough, the powers that be have seen fit to put mention of myself and the stories I'm attempting to tell in this fantastic compilation of NZ Comics!
Big thank you to Mr Dylan Horrocks and everyone in the NZ comic scene - what an exciting island we all live on.

Brace :D

Not long until the next Saurian Era comic is done - whoa!
Hard to believe, nearly two years since the last one. Here are a couple of pages in different stages of completion. Also a fun little comp of two of the human characters...

The Herders

Illustrating some of Flint's travels around the world of Saurian Era. Here he is shortly after being awakened by a huge group of hadrosaurs being shepherded by some herders.

Zee Cook

My good friend Brady has been coming up with ideas for some of the racers in my upcoming comic, the first being a mad meat dealer from the village of Saltside:

The Comics Are Up!

Good news, the first two Saurian Era comics are up for people to read and enjoy! Just click the little covers on the right to be taken there or follow these links:

Its been almost two years since these were completed. The first being an answer to my original animation, the second was made in a cascade of enthusiasm, with not much more thought then 'some dude getting into a sweet fight with a Raptor' - Yeah I know, huge bounds from the first one of a dude beating up a couple of dinosaurs.
I've received so much valuable feedback since then. Thanks :)
The next comic will bring the two stories together, introduce new characters (and dinosaurs!) and will be unfolding around the event of a huge yearly dinosaur race. I think I can safely say my inspiration for it was movies like Speedracer and the animated movie Redline.

Characters 2

A few characters I have been working on for the past week. Trin, Flint and two characters only known so far as The Guide and The Kid. Trins going to need a bit more work until I'm happy with her.

Rainy Day Update

Saltside Village - home of the yearly Great Salt Race!
First finished page from the next comic! Learning more about inking and dealing with detail in both the foreground and background. Few little niggles I'd fix if I did it again, but hey, plenty more to come!

And Kumra! Faithful steed and insatiable appetite accompanying the main character of the story.

In June

Whole bunch of work in progress - stay tuned :D

Characters

Taking a shot at designing some of the human characters a bit further. The top two are the guy and raptor from the second comic. His outfit has been redesigned and inspired with Muai Thai Kickboxing in mind. I did Muai Thai kickboxing for several months and tried to soak in as much as I could (including a few punches to the head), especially about the fighting and culture that it comes from.
The first guy in this second lineup is your typical grunt character with sword. I had fun incorporating a mix of armour, both dino-scales and metals along with some asian inspired drapery and rope. The girl is part of a group of people who are against dinosaurs. The blindfold is going with the idea that dinosaurs read humans by watching their eyes so part of their uniform is a blindfold with a slit in it. The last guy is another go at working on the main guy from comic no.1. Not the most happy with his pose but happy with how the face came out. Planning on putting some more development into his shorts/skirt and sword.

Rex Sculpt

This friendly fellow was made recently at the Whitecloud Workshop sculpting class taught by the amazing Ben Wooten and Warren Mahy, here in Welly. It was incredibly fun to be building a dino in my hands like this and I found the Chavant modelling clay heaps more workable then the supersculpey we used back in animation school. I used crocodile ref for the scales on his neck and just went crazy and did the rest of him from my head.

WELLINGTON ARMAGEDDON!!!

Stu, Tom, Stacey and I, 'doin our thing at Wellington Armageddon last weekend. Stu had his new comic (with zombies!), Tom with his excellent prints and cardboard cutout horrors, Stacey with her beautiful pinup fantasy ladies, and me, with my two comics and a few prints (more dinosaurs). We collectively filled any space left on the table with drawings on postcards and sold them for donations. Wicked fun times! Thanks guys and everyone who came and said hi! Also, check out Tom's, Stacey's and Stu's blogs over in my links to check their arts :D

Chase

It was supposed to be a race - now its more of a chase!

War Rough

Had big plans for the next comic to be done for Armageddon Expo this April - I even swore off the new Mass Effect game in order to get it done. It will be bringing the past two comics together in one and bringing in some new characters - including the Raptor riding lass I posted below. However, I really want to nail this next one. I want to make the best damn Saurian Era comic I can. So I wont be rushing it out. Im busy studying my anatomy and learning my digital painting. Ill be taking a sculpting and maquette making course next month thanks to the White Cloud Worlds Workshop being held here in Welly. The September Expo in Auckland is my aim for the next one to be done by. In the meantime, Ill be busting out some sweet pics to sell as prints this April. Here's a rough of the one I'm working on at the mo.
Also, here's a silly little trailer for the next comic. Rough as guts, but I made it in a day in a burst of enthusiasm :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJrMZjSmljQ

Trin

Test for main character for next comic. A girl!
